Do you think the poem mirror highlights gender equality?
Dear student,
The poem 'Aunt Jennifer's Tigers' is a perfect piece that highlights gender conflict in our society. On one hand, we have a docile, submissive, weak woman aunt Jennifer who longs to be free of her duties as a wife to a dominating husband but, she is never able to achieve the kind of freedom she wishes for. On the other hand, we have aunt Jennifer's husband who is unperturbed and continues to dominate his wife. Also, the tiger's created by aunt Jennifer are symbolic of the males of our society who continue to be free and enjoy their freedom forever. While, aunt Jennifer will go to the grave with a heavy wedding band on her finger, the tigers created by her are immortal and will continue be free.
