do you think, whatever your parents do for you, is for your own good? portia's father devised a test to safeguard her in his absentia. what was this method? how does portia's feel about her deceased father method of selecting husband. how far method was successful

Our parents are our best well wishers, their love for us is unselfish. usually, the decisions they take for us are beneficial for us. Portia's father did the same. he devised a lottery with three chests: one of gold, the second of silver and the third of lead. Portia's suitors had to choose among the three chests to win her hand. Portia is quite unhappy about her father's decision and laments the fact that it takes away her choice. She wishes she could have chosen her husband on her own terms, independent of her father's will. But, the method worked out well for her: the haughty and vain suitors chose the gold and silver casket, only to lose her and any chance to ever get married. Bassanio did choose the correct casket with her picture inside.
