Draw a diagram to locate the position of a convex lens kept between a candle and a screen separated by a distance of 90cm, so that an image of the candle, half the size of it, may be formed on the screen.  Deduce the focal length from the diagram. Given magnification = m = -1/2 since it is real image obtained on the screen and half the size of the object.
m = v/u = -1/2
v = -u/2----(1)
Aiso given -u+v = 90cm ---(2)
So on solving equation (1) and (2) v = 30cm and u = -60cm

1f=1v-1u1f=130-1-60on solving we get f = 20cm
