'Education in ancient India was not meant for all. similarly education in british india was also not meant for all.' What do you understand by this statement?(5 points)

Education in ancient India was for well cultured people, those who were born in the upper castes like the Brahmins or the Kshatriyas . People were classified according to their professions.  So, only those belonging to the upper castes  were educated and given prominent positions in the court of the kings.

Similarly, in British India the rich and elite class were the privileged ones for going to school and receiving education. Moreover, those who could go for higher studies or those who use their studies to do jobs were educated in general.

British also encouraged education to  people with he purpose of using them in running the administration of India. They wanted their policies to be enforced and their superiority to be shown via their education.

Moreover, the children of those who worked for the British also received education.

In ancient India we had a type of caste system:the priests are Brahmins, the warriors are Kshatriya, the merchants are Vaishya, and theartisansare Shudras. The priests had a religious education and were the highest of all, the kings and warriors had another education but the priests were superior to them. Vaishyas were considered middle- class. The shudras were seperated from the people. It was pure discrimnation and stereotyping. The first two groups were made the best while the third group learnt a bit and got along. Now in british India when the rulers came down, everyone were given an education only to some level. This was because they wanted literate people to work for them but didn't want them to subside them. This is the true meaning to the above statement.
