(a)

(i) The angle of incidence is the angle which the incident ray makes with the normal.

∴∠i = 90°–30° = 60 °

 

(ii) Angle of refraction is the angle which the refracted ray makes with the normal.

∴∠r= 90°–45° = 45°

 

 

 

(b) According to Snell’s law,

 ^Airμ_Liquid = sini/sinr = sin60°/sin45° 

Or,    

^airμ_liquid =  (√3/2)/(1/√2) = √3/√2

​ 

 =1.22.
