Explain any five main causes of water pollution

"Ans. The five major causes for water pollution are given below:
(i)  Various chemicals and hazardous wastes from Industries are released into water bodies such as lakes, ponds and rivers without being treated.
(ii) Agriculture Modem agricultural practices use chemicals in form of fertilisers, pesticides and herbicides which flow into rivers or seep into groundwater.
(iii) In households, the water used by people for washing utensils, bathing, cleaning houses, etc. let out through municipal drains and discharged into a rivers or water bodies.
(iv) Offshore drilling and Exploring for oil and gas under the seabed, involves some risks to the marine environment such as and oil spills.
(v)  Radioactive isotopes wastes from nuclear power plants, weapon testing, and laboratories where are they used are sources can pollute the entire water sources of region.
