Explain halons and freons.

Halons are the chemical compounds which are linked to halogens. They are most used in fire fighting.
Halon fire extinguishers are electronic fire extinguisher and these are mainly used to protect delicate systems like computers, PC , tape, electrical equipment etc.
Freons are chloroflorocarbon compounds of methane and ethane.
The most commonly used Freon is Freon-12 also known as CCl2F2 Dichlorodifluoromethane.
However it has now been banned due to environmental concerns.
