Pipeline is an important mode of transportation whereby material is transported through pipes . We may give example of natural gas, oil, water etc which is transported through pipes between the countries and also within nations.

Advantages of Pipelines:

a. Pipelines , for long have been used to transport water.
b. They can be used by the government to transport crude oil, natural gas, petroleum products, to industries and thermal plants.

c. It helps in reaching to interiors and remote regions.
d. Setting up of pipelines has enabled the government to set up refineries in the interiors of the country.
e. The running cost of pipelines is comparatively less
f. Further, pipelines also avoid any form of delays and losses resulting out of shipment of material


Disadvantages:


a. Setting pipelines initially is a costly affair
b.  Pipelines may pass through  ares under volatile  conditions like that in Gulf region , which result in tampering and damage to them.

d. It is also difficult to detect leakage and repair the fault.
