explain the abnormalities of pancreas. (5 marks)

Some of the common abnormalities of the pancreas are;
Pancreatitis, is a pancreatic inflammation  and damaging of the cells by the digestive chemicals produced by the pancreas itself. The disease becomes chronic due to the heavy uptake of alcohol.
Cystic fibrosis: It is a genetic disorder that affects the pancreas and lungs.
Diabetes: It is of two types; type i and type ii.
Type i diabetes : The insulin producing cell of the pancreas is destroyed. so the insulin in the body has to be maintained by insulin injection.
Type ii diabetes :The pancreas will be unable to produce and release the insulin, resulting in the increase in the blood sugar level.
Islet cell tumour: The abnormal multiplication of the hormone producing cells of the pancreas results in the cancerous tumour.It results in the excess production of the hormonnes.Some of the examples of such disease are Glucagonomas, Gastrinomas and Insulinomas.These tumour affects the endocrine function of the pancreas.
Exocrine tumours are cystadenomas, adenocarcinomas, adenosquamous carcinomas.Of the pancreatic cancer the exocrine tumour are common.
