Explain the mechanism of ear in short.

pinna, which is a part of the external ear, gathers the sound from the surroundings passes it through the external auditory canal till the sound hits the tympanic membrane. the sound then travels through the ear ossicles, malleus, incus and stapes and finally to the cochlea. due to the sound vibrations, ripples are formed in the fluid in the cochlea and because of this, the hair cells of the organ of corti (present in the basilar membrane) press against the tectorial membrane after which nerve impulses are sent to the auditory cortex where the sound is recognized.
