Explain the role of light, temperature, water availability and CO2 concentration on stomatal movement.

Dear student,
The role played by the following factors affect stomatal movement:-
1) Light :- Stomata opens in light and closes in dark but in CAM plants stomata opens at night and closes during day.
2) Temperature:- Stomata opens with an increase in temperature if water is not the limiting factor.
3) Water availability:- If water is not available in the leaves of plants that may be due to excess transpiration and little absorption of water which results in water deficiency. In such cases leaves closes their stomata to retain water.
4) CO2 concentration:- Decrease in CO2 concentration favours opening of stomata while increase in CO2 concentration favours closing of stomata.
