- Explain theory of natural selection with the help of DDT resistance in mosquitoes.
Dear Student
Initially when DDT was used against mosquitoes, most of them died due to its highly effective effects on them. But due to regular use, a small population of mosquitoes developed a favourable mutation within them, which made them resistant to DDT . These mosquitoes survived and passed on their genes to the next generation. Hence, these mosquitoes were naturally selected, which evolved to give rise to DDT resistant variants.
