In a faulty barometer the rise and fall of the mercury column gives the changes in atmospheric pressure.
In case the torricellian vaccum has some air or the glass equipment is not dried properly before the preparing the barometer , the barometer becomes faulty.
If air is present in the galss column then it will exert pressure and the reading of atmospheric pressure will increase.
