Explain this.

Dear student,
According to Foster the meristem is divided into two regions on the basis of rate of division.
Vegetative shoot apex
Summit:- This region is present at the apex where division rate is slow. Flank:- This region is present below the summit region where division rate is fast. Formation of leaf primordia occurs in this region.
Reproductive shoot apex
Due to the induction of florigen or light the vegetative shoot apex is transformed into reproductive shoot apex where summit region becomes more active and forms carpels and stamens while flank region becomes less active and forms sepals and petals.
