Explain various root modifications using diagrams and examples
1) Roots modified to store food..
In some plants like turmeric and carrot,food is stored in the root.
2) Stilt root-
In some plants like sugarcane,the root arises from the nodes at the base of the stem and provides support to the plant.Such modifications of roots are called stilt root.
3)Prop roots
Some roots arise from the parts of plants other than radicle and provides support to the plant as in banyan tree are called prop roots.
4)Pneumatophores-
In plants like mangrove growing in swampy areas roots grow vertically upwards the soil or respiration.These are called pneumatophores.
