explain why blood flows slowly in animals with an open circulatory system. give one example of such animals?

Dear student,

In the open circulatory system, heart is absent and its functions are performed by blood vessels. These vessels pump the blood and forces it to enter into the cells but this pressure cannot equalize the pressure to the one provided by heart. Blood vessels are connected to open sinuses directly. This system is inefficient.

The blood flows slowly in this type of system because when blood leaves the blood vessels, there is no blood pressure in the body and the organism needs to make continuous movements in order to enable blood flow to all the body spaces.

Example of open circulatory system includes insects like cockroaches.
