Explain why the chance of fertilisation in humans is restricted to only a few days each month.

Fertilisation is union of male gamete (sperm) and female gamete (ovum). In humans, the females produces only one mature ovum each month and life span of this ovum is only 12-24 hrs. Thus the chance of fertilisation in humans is restricted to only a few days each month.
