Ffects of rainwater harvesting

a. In regions in arid region like Rajasthan, rain water harvesting is practised, where water is collected and stored in tanks
b. There every house has underground tanks either within the house or courtyards.
c. These tanks are connected with pipes to the rooftops. Rainwater comes through these pipes to the tanks.The first spell is not collected, it is the rainwater of subsequent showers that is collected since it is devoid of impurities
d. This rainwater is stored to ensure regular water supply.
e. In some houses, have underground rooms , next to the tanks to keep those rooms cool.
f. The water stored is used for various purposes including drinking, cooking, bathing etc
g. Roof top rain water harvesting is also practises in Shillong, Meghalaya
h. Then, Gendathur in Karnataka provides us a classic example of roof top rain water harvesting.
i.In Himalayas , people built guls or kuls which are alternate diversion channel to use rain water.
j. Such a methods helps in using water for irrigation purpose
