Figures of speech in 'Deep Water'
 

Dear Student, 

Here are certain figures of speech used in the chapter.

• Alliteration : Eg: Y.M.C.A. in Yakima ( Occurrence of same letter Y in nearby words.), water wings ( Occurrence of same letter W in nearby words.)
• Hyperbole: Eg: Mother continually warned against it, and kept fresh in my mind the details of each drowning in the river. ( It is fairly unlikely that he knows and remembers about each growing in the river. It is an exaggeration.)
• Simile: Eg - I would bob to the surface like a cork.
