-it produced a rich blue colour which was very much profitable for European merchants.
-it produced brighter colour than woad.
Indian farmers were hesitant to grow indigo because;
--it ruined the fertility of soil as it roots were so,deep.
--farmers were forced to grow indigo on the best part of their soil and not grow food crops.
--they got very low prices for growing indigo and always remained in loan cycle.
firstly when british planters came to india they bribed the local headmen and peasents. They said that you grow indigo on the best part of soil and we will give you money for that,we will provide seeds for it also.
---First they loaned the farmer and when farmer came to british planters to sell indigo they cut off the money of loan from the money given to peasents.
---but later they decreased the amount of money given and increased loan, then to repay britisher planters loan they asked the moneylenders to give money. So,they were stuck in a loan cycle as they have to pay back money to british planters and moneylenders and if they wont the planetrs or moneylenders would take away there land.So some left their land like this and ran away while some worked as labours in their own land.
THEN IT LED TO BLUE REBELLION...

The Indian farmers were hesitant to grow Indigo because -
1. Indigo cultivation would turn the land Barren.
2. The tools used for Indigo cultivation were needed at same time at which they were needed for rice cultivation.
3.The roots of the Indigo plant exhausted the soil.

1-due to rapid industrialisation and lack of any alternatives led to great demand of Indigo in Europe and secondly the the Indigo plant grows in tropics and Europe's climate does not favours the growth of Indigo plant.
2-the farmers were hesitant to grow Indigo because once it is grown in a land the soil loses its fertility and they did not got proper wages for growing it.
Thanks regards

? The dye used by manufacturer in Europe was made from a different plants and had a very dull colour. Indigo on the other hand had a rich blue colour.
? Industrialisation led to an increase in production of cloth and therefore an increase in demand for dyes.
? The Indigo plant grew primarily in the tropics.
Therefore, increase in the demand d?e to rap?d Industrialisation and lack of any alternative led to the great demand of Indigo in European countries.

Do you sign the contract got advance cash from the planters at low rate of interest to produce Indigo but the loan committed the ryots to cultivating Indigo on at least 25% of the area is holding when the loan got delivered to the planters the given new loan which trapped The ryots in a loan cycle
