They go there for there devotion to the god.If they are in difficulties they go there because people belive that god will help them.

Why do you think people go there? - There is two reasons 
  1. They go for the worship.
  2. They go for the... first a fall banaras is a trading post so the people go for trading or you can say for shops they make but it is under the temples.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

 [Hint: Think of Vaishno Devi Temple of Hazratbasl Mosque in Kashmir. People go there on pilgrimage.There are shops of local merchants and traders in these pilgrimage centres. A part from selling prasad the shopd deals with shawls and other local products.]
