Gas is evolved when Dil. Sulphuric Acid reacts with Zinc granules. It gives a pop sound when a lit match stick is introduced near it. Identify the gas?

A.Nitrogen

B.Hydrogen

C.Oxygen

D.Carbondioxide

Dear student,
When dilute sulphuric acid is poured over zinc granules, hydrogen gas is evolved and the mixture becomes hot.

Zn + 2HCl → ZnCl2 + H2
If we bring a matchstick close to the mouth of the test tube evolving hydrogen gas then there is instant spark of fire because hydrogen gas catches fire and produces a pop sound. This is due to hydrogen reacts with oxygen present in air to form water vapours.
