In case the ranks are equal an adjustment made in the formula for calculation of rank correlation coefficient. Rank correlation coefficient is calculated as
 
$r = 1- \frac{6\left[{\displaystyle \sum _{}}{D}^2+{\displaystyle \frac{1}{12}}(M_1^3-M_1)+{\displaystyle \frac{1}{12}}(M_2^3-M_2)\right]}{N^3 - N}$
Here m is the number of times a rank is repeated. For instance if two items are accorded equal ranks then m will be equal to 2.
