Give a few examples of variation in gene pool

Dear student,

Genes exist in alternate forms called alleles. Gene pool is the collection of all the genes and the various alleles within a population.Genetic variation within a population can be determined by calculating the number of different alleles of all genes and the frequency with which they appear. The gene pool of each species contains a collection of various alleles whose phenotype may or may not be observable.

Examples:
1. Drosophila melanogaster or fruit fly population  exhibits a variety of allelic forms: B and b, V and v, W and w and more.
2. Tropical butterflies shows variations in wing colour and pattern depending on the season during which a butterfly is born. Temperature and light can influence gene expression.
3. Skin colour, hair colour, eye colour of humans.
