There have been many examples of forest conservation where
people got directly involved to save trees and forests Some of
these are:
1) Chipko movement: In the Uttarakhand Himalayas, Sunderlal
Bahuguna and Pandey started a movement to protect trees and stop
deforestation by commercial wood contractors who were cutting fully
grown trees
2) Bishnoi community in Rajasthan also present a very good
example of conservation of forest and wildlife Amrita Devi Bishnoi,
sacrificed her life along with 363 others to protect the 'khejri'
trees in a village near Jodhpur in Rajasthan from a passing army of
an emperor who tried to cut the trees
