Give any two ways in which non-biodegradable substances would affect the environment.

Dear Student,

Non- biodegradable substancesare those substances that cannot be broken down naturally into its simpler basic components with the help of decomposers such bacteria and fungi. For example: plastic bag, metals like iron, copper etc.

  • Non biodegradable substances cause land pollution and water pollution.Burning of non biodegradable substances also cause air pollution.
  • Non biodegradable substances such as plastic bags when consumed along with food by animals, cause harm to their life. They can cause blocking in sewage line.

Non biodegradable substancescan be decomposed safely through the following methodsLandfill Landfills are established on abandoned or unused lands where wastes are disposed and buried into the soil.Incineration Some wastes like medical or toxic wastes that are not safe to dispose are burned in high temperature into incinerators. Incinerators transform the waste into ashes.Non biodegradable can also be recycle in different usable forms in order to reduce the wastes.
