Give examples of 3 averages use by us. How are averages misleading?

 Dear student,

Please find below the solution to the asked query.

Give examples of 3 averages use by us.
Average population and age of population
- Average literacy and poverty rate
- Average lfe expectancy of people living in a particular country
- The average climate of a place and average temperature at a particular time of the year.

 How are averages misleading?
The following points may help you:

a. Averages for instance average income it serves as an important tool of comparing different nations and classifying them as rich countries or low income countries.
b. It gives us an information about what an average person is likely to earn and therefore is an important indicator of development.

c. It  gives us a quantitative aspect of development.
d. However,  It is based on assumption that in countries with  high per capita income , people would have high standard of living and would be in a position to not only manage their basic necessities  but other things required to lead a  life.
e. This criteria however only takes into account the quantitative aspect and does not talk of how the income is distributed among the different sections of the society.
 f. It does not indicate how that income is distributed among the population, where majority could be poor.
g. We may compare countries A and B,  with say for instance same average income, it would be difficult to identify how that income is fairly distributed among the population. We would surely prefer a country where income  is equally distributed.
