Give one example of each of the following:
i) Artificial ecosystem
ii) Biodegradable substance
iii) Non-biodegradable substance
iv) Natural ecosystem

Dear Student,

The solution to your raised query is provided below-

i) Artificial ecosystem- A  man-made or artificial ecosystem is the one whose components are under man's control. Man cannot create them. He simply brings them together in a system where their existence can be monitored. e.g. aquarium.
ii) Biodegradable substance- biodegradable substances are those which can be decompsed i.e. converted into simpler substances by the action of micro organisms or decomposers eg.excreta , animal waste , plant waste etc.
iii) Non-biodegradable substance- Non biodegradable substances are that which cannot be broken down naturally either by air, climate, moisture or soil. This kind of waste cannot be naturally dissolved into the land. Some of the most common non biodegradable products are plastic bags and bottles, tin cans and even computer hardware.
iv) Natural ecosystem- A natural ecosystem is one which is created naturally without any human intervention. e.g. forest.

Dear student,

Artificial ecosystem- dams, gardens, parks which are made by humans. The zoos, aquariums and botanical gardens are examples of artificial ecosystems which are maintained with the objective of conserving biodiversity. The plants and animals are placed in well-protected areas similar to their natural habitats.

Biodegradable substance- Human and animal waste. (Such as Fecal matter), Plant products such as wood, paper, food material etc., Remains of dead organisms.

non-biodegradable substance- fibres, shoes, metals, hazardous substances, pesticides, consumer items such as plastic bags, shopping bags, plastic containers and plastic water bottles.

natural ecosystem- Rivers , Lakes , Forests, etc

Hope this helps.
