give reasons

1. ammonia gas a covalent does not conduct electricity byt its aq. soln. ammonium hydroxide is a weak electrolyte

2. iron displaces copper from a solution of copper salt. . the reaction is deemed as redox reaction

A-1)

Electricity conduction depends upon presence of ions.

Ammonia gas does not contain ions to conduct electricity while aqueous solution of ammonia i.e. ammonium hydroxide conducts electricity because in solution stage it has ions to move.

NH3(aq) + H2O ⇔ NH4+ + OH-

Ammonium hydroxide is a weak electrolyte.

Weak electrolytes incompletely dissociate to form ions in solution. These substances exist as a mixture of molecules and ions in solution. The double arrow indicates that the reaction is significant in both directions. Both forward and reverse reactions occur constantly and simultaneously.  As a result only a small amount of reactant ionizes to form the products.

A-2)

In this reaction, Copper ions become copper metal, and iron metal become iron(II) ions. The sulfate ions are spectator ions.

Copper ions (Cu2+) have to gain electrons to become copper atoms (Cu). Electrons must have come from the iron atoms (Fe) which lost electrons to become iron(II) ions (Fe2+).

Cu2+(aq)  +  2e    Cu(s)

Fe(s)    Fe2+(aq)  +  2e

So what really happened was that electrons were transferred from the iron to the copper ions. So it is a redox reaction.
