Land reforms: India has focused on land reforms since independence. The most significant achievement of the land reform policy in India has been the abolition of the zamindari system. Other objectives of land reform policy has been the abolition of intermediaries like rent collectors, improving the security of tenure for tenants, imposing ceiling on landholdings and consolidation of landholdings that are separated. Such steps have been motivated by the desire to remove exploitation and social injustice in the agricultural system, and to improve the productivity of agriculture.
