Give structure and hybridisation of CH3+

Dear Student,

Please find below the solution for your asked query:

Actually, the hybridization of CH3+ is sp2, and the hybridization of CF3+ is sp3.

In CH3+ there are 3 bond pairs and one free electron, that's the reason for the reactivity of it. In CF3+ there are 3 bond pairs too, but since Fluorine is highly electronegative, it pulls that odd electron towards it, and due to the electron clouds on the carbon of CF3+ gives rise to a tetrahedral shape, and sp3 hybridization.

That's the reason why CH3+ has a higher sp2 character than that of CF3+.

Hope this helps!

Structure of CH3+ is Trigonal pyramidal and hybridization is sp²
  • 0
It is trigonal planar as bond pair is 3 and has 0 lone pairs and hybridization is sp2.
