Give the character sketch of General Armstrong in the book 'Up From Slavery' by Booker.T.Washington.

General Armstrong was the man whom Booker T Washington had always admired and we get to know about it in his autobiography Up From Slavery. Armstrong had taken it upon himself to educate the black race after the Civil War. He wanted the black race to integrate into a society dominated by white people. For this purpose he had established the Hampton school where Booker T Washington had attended his school. This educationist preached how education and work go together and it is his principles which are reflected in Booker's educational ideas as well.
