Dear Student,
Mitosis is the process of cell division in which  the chromosomes duplicate and gets equally distributed into its two daughter cells. The chromosome number in each daughter cell remains equal to that of the parent cell, i.e., diploid. Hence, mitosis is also referred as equational divison.
