how can Na + O2 can form Na2O didn't understand ?
We know that oxygen requires 2 electrons to complete its outermost electronic configuration. Each sodium atom can donate 1 electron to complete its outermost stable configuration.
Therefore each oxygen atoms will covalently bonded to two sodium atoms to form sodium oxide which has the chemical formula - Na2O
