Genes are segments of DNA molecules, and are hereditary units Gene
determines its specific biological functions Since DNA is the
information source of the cell for making proteins, an alteration
in the DNA would result in an alteration in the gene in which that
particular DNA is present Therefore, the DNA acts as a carrier of
the genetic information from one generation to another and these
can be altered when variations occur in the process of DNA copying
