Also, when Valli says that she is eight years old, he behaves in a surprised manner to show that she was indeed an adult. The expressions and the terms that he uses in his conversations with Valli shows that he was a jolly fellow.

The conductor was a jolly fellow because :-
1)He asked Valli to sit down on the seat to prevent her from falling down and getting hurt.

2)When Valli was short of money to buy a cold drink, the conductor offered her help. But she refused politely.

3)While saying goodbye, the conductor offered Valli to come again whenever she wanted to have a bus ride.

4) Also, the conductor called Valli as Madam.
