how did gandhi help the poor in champaran?

Gandhi overcame the problems faced by sharecroppers but he was not contented with economic or political changes only. He took immediate steps to remove social and cultural backwardness from Champaran villages. Many people like Mahadev Desai, Narhari Parikh, Kasturbai volunteered to work for the well being of villagers. Lessons on cleanliness and sanitation were taught by Kasturbai. A doctor also volunteered to check the miserable health conditions.

gandhi saw cultural and social backwardness in the champaran villages and wanted to do something about it immediately .he appealed for volunteers. mahadev desai,narhari parikh and their wives started the work with number of volunteers from different part of india.primary schools were opened.a doctor was also arranged for six months.castor oil,quinine and sulphur ointment was used for all ailments.
