How did Silas treat cobbler's wife Sally oates? What was the effect of her successful treatment on gaining his reputation in village of Raveloe?

Dear Student,
Silas Marner relieves Mrs. Oates’ symptoms of dropsy, by administering her some foxglove, a liquid which eases her pain.
But unfortunately, this brings negative consequences for Silas. After he cured Mrs. Oates’ symptoms, he finds mothers at his door for a cure for whooping cough, men for rheumatism or arthritis, all carrying silver in their hands. On being told that he cannot cure them, they would not believe him. On being turned away, they blamed attacks of their symptoms on him. He later becomes more reclusive and begins to withdraw from society.
Regards
