how did the indians react to the ilbert bill controversy?

 1)  The dissatisfaction with British rule increased to greater heights in 1870s and 1880s. The Arms Act of 1878 disallowed Indians from possessing arms.

2)  Moreover, there was disagreement over the attempt of the Government to introduce Ilbert Bill. The bill provided for the trial of British or European persons by Indians and sought equality between British and Indian judges in the country.

3)  When ‘whites’ opposed this bill and forced the government to withdraw the same, Indians were enraged. This highlighted the racial attitudes of British in India.

4)  This controversy deepened the desire of the Indians the need for an all – India organisation of educated Indians greatly.
