how do vitamins get there number (like Vitamin B12)?

Dear student,

Vitamins get their number on the basis of their presence in the dietary substance and the cofactor present in them.
For example, vitamin B1 plays a role in carbohydrate metabolism and vitamin B2 plays a role in the Electron transport chain which occurs later than carbohydrate metabolism.
