how does polyploidy occur due to the failure of cytokinesis after replication?

Dear student,
Polyploidy is a condition where an extra set of chromosome apart from diploid (2n) is found in cell, for example:- 3n, 4n etc. Polyploidy can be achieved due to failure of cytokinesis because after replication of chromosome has occurred during S phase, then karyokinesis occurs followed by cytokinesis which divides cytoplasm separating single cell into two cell but when cytokinesis fails then membrane do not impinges and two cells are not formed but due to replication chromosome has been duplicated into two therefore extra set of chromosome appears in the cell which could not divide due to failure of cytokinesis.
