How is foreigner (Pardesi) used today different from that of Medieval period ?

At that time a person who does not belongs to a society or culture where  considered as term     [ Pardesi ]. In now times, people which belongs to another country are called term [ Foreigner ].

In the medieval period a stranger is often called a foreinger who is someone from outside the city.

But now we call foreinger to someone outside of India
