India 's geographical location is favourable to international trade and commerce because it has a coast of7,517 km. India lies midway between the Far East and the Middle East. The Trans-Indian Ocean routes connecting the industrially developed countries of Europe in the west and the underdeveloped countries of east Asia pass close by. India being centrally located in South Asia, she enjoys an advantageous-position for doing trade with Australia and the countries of Africa, the Middle East and the Far East. Thus, India dominates the Indian Ocean and commands an important strategic position.

U see the deccan plateau protrude directly into the Indian Ocean..

From the west coast u can go to Africa. You can also go to Europe through the Suez Canal Route.

The East coast allows connections with South east asia, Austraila and America through the pacific route..

The passes in himalayas were previously a part of the silk routes.. Now also they aare very popular and are still being used..

So, India can make easy contacts with many countries..

As a part of India lies on the Indian ocean, it makes the trade favourable through water transport rather than roads through various countries to reach India. It is time saving also. For eg. The suez canal that connects Europe and Mumbai by decreasing 7000 km !
