how is Net Primary Product (npp) related to secondary productivity?

Dear student,
Net primary productivity is the amount of food synthesised by plants which after maintenance of the plant is available as a biomass of the plant which can be transferred to the consumer is called net primary productivity. The specific amount of net primary productivity which can be retained by heterotrophs in the somatic and reproductive parts is called secondary productivity. In this way both the terms are related to each other.

Npp is available biomass for the consumption to heterotrophs i.e. formed by producers(GPP-R=NPP) while Sp is rate of formation of new organic matter by consumers.
