How is the nucleic fraction of our food digested and absorbed in the body

Dear student,
Please find below the solution to the asked query

Nucleic acids are an important component of cells, so, it is necessary to digest nucleic acids present in food. They are ingested in the form of nucleoproteins by the body. Various enzymes present in gastric and intestinal juices such as nucleases act on the protein part of the nucleoprotein and these are converted to mononucleotides. The end product of nucleic acid digestion is nucleotides which are a complex of a nitrogenous base, sugar and phosphate. These nucleotides are absorbed by the body and assimilated by the cells to form their own nucleic acids.
