How should we identify which one was ionic and which one is covalent compound?pls explain briefly

Dear Student

Your question is not very clear. Tried to explain few points. Please see the detail below:

If a bond is formed between an electropositive element and an electronegative element, then it will be an ionic bond, for example, bond formed between Na and Cl ions, in NaCl is ionic bond.

If a bond is formed between two same non-metals or elements, with less electronegativity difference, then it is a covalent bond. For example, bond formed between two H- atoms on H2 molecule, is a covalent bond.

If the bond is formed between a metal and a non-metallic molecule, by sharing of electrons, donated by one atom only, then the bond formed is called a coordinate bond. For example, in NH4+, molecule, the bond formed between N and H+ is a coordinate bond, where N donates the lone pair if electron, for sharing with H+.
