The first textile mill in India was set up in India in 1854. This opened the way for more textile mills in Bombay and the rest of the country. The reason behind this is that with the setting up of the first mill, Indians now had the technology and the knowledge to set up more mills. Their was a learning process of how to set up mills and operate them that spread from the first mill to other mills. With the first mill, there was a realization that there was a market for Indian made textile products. This inspired other entrepreneurs to set up their own mills.
