Let hypotenuse be x, then the other side = 18 – x

Applying pythagoras theorem,

$x^{2} = (18 - x)^{2} + 12^{2} x^{2} = 324 + x^{2} - 36 x + 144 36 x = 468 x = 13$

Thus, the length of hypotenuse = 13 cm and the other side is 5cm

Now lets draw the triangle.

(1) Construct a line segment AB of length 12 cm.

(2) At point A, construct an altitude AX and cut an arc of radius 5 cm on AX which cuts it at point C. Join the points C and B.
