How to find the squares of numbers by column method? Pls ans my question.

Square of a number by column method

 

Step- I: Make three columns,I,II and III headed by

Step-2. In column III underline the unit digit of  and carry over the tens digit of it to column II and add it to the value of

Step-3. In column II underline the units digit of the number obtained in step 2 and carry over the tens digit of it to Column I and add it to the value of 

Step-4. Underline the number obtained in Step-3 in column I.

 

Let us say we have to find the square of 47 by column method

Find the square of 47.

Solution - Given the number=47

therefore a=4 and b=7

column methods means, first we have to let a be the tens digit b as the unit digit.

then we will square a,then we willtake 2ab, then at last we will square b.

then we will underline the unit digit of b square ,then we will add the unit digit of b square with 2ab.then we will take the unit digit of 2ab.then we will take the unit digit of 2ab add with a square.at last we will put the the number at a square then put unit digit of 2ab,then put unit digit of b square.the numbers got will be square of the number

example:23 square=

a square , 2ab , b square
