How to separate ammonium chloride and Pottasium Chloride ?

Dear student,

Ammonium chloride and potassium chloride can be separated from their mixture by sublimation method.
Sublimation method is the process in which a solid changes directly into vapours i.e. gaseous state on heating without going into liquid state. Here the ammonium chloride being a sublimate, so it sublimes on heating the mixture and leaves the potassium chloride behind so in this way both can be separated.

Dear Student,

Good question!

The answer is as follows.

A mixture of ammonium chloride and potassium chloride can be separated using the process of sublimation. You must also note that both these substances are sublimable. So, the question arises that how can these substances be separated using this technique?

Well this technique is quite feasible in this case as the sublimable temperatures of ammonium and potassium chloride differ widely. Between the two, ammonium chloride has lower sublimable temperature. Therefore, it sublimes first followed by potassium chloride.

Hope this answers your question.

Cheers!
